Metal Detectors: Applying Common Sense And Good Manners In Beach Metal Detecting - Sports

As many metal detecting fanatics know, shorelines are a few of the most popular spot for a lot of seekers. The often-populated shorelines aren't something that would daunt an enthusiastic detectorist, expert or otherwise. Due to this very well-liked status, they are likely to become swarmed for metal detectorists at the same time.

In general, metal detecting hobbyists are often seen swinging their metal detectors on a solo hunt. It is, for the most part, a solitary activity. There are a few who like to hunt in pairs or in groups. Also, occasionally, there are special events such as club hunts where an entire membership descends on a predetermined location for an organized hunt. But these are all exceptions to the general rule.

How then, should hobbyists behave when hunting on the same patch of land? What if you are covering the same beach as another metal detectorist? At the height of summer or over the holidays, it is quite possible that yours is not the only metal detector sweeping across the sand.

First of all, wether you are new to the hobby or not, let the rules of etiquette and common sense guide you. First of all, be polite. The other person is enjoying a hobby, just like you are. Treat them as you would wish to be treated, if you are not feeling chatty or don't want to have a conversation, that is fine, but be polite, return a greeting if you receive it or give one if you get the opportunity.

Try not to encroach on each other's space. I would not want to bump metal detectors with anyone else, not even if I went to the beach with hunting buddy. He or she can hunt way over there and we can holler to each other if or when we find something exciting or maybe just compare notes at the end of our hunt.

As with everything in this world, you will encounter people who might try you patience. They are there, even in the hobby of metal detecting. So, always keep this in mind lest you get caught off guard, annoyed or lose your temper, and you might get tempted to use you metal detector as bat. There are disagreeable characters even out there on the beach. Just in case you do encounter them, it is best to just go on your way and enjoy your hobby.
