Gold Prospecting TV Shows - Hobbies - Collecting

Gold Prospecting has become a great hobby due to the price of gold. There are a few TV shows that have caught my attention that I would like to share. I love gold panning and they have great equipment now that people can use. Sluice boxes, dredgers, highbankers and shaker tables that make finding gold easier than ever !

First google your state and gold and see if gold has ever been found in your state. Check neighboring states to determine the same information. Go out in the river or creek near you and do some panning. Gold is heavy and sinks to the bottom and is often caught in crevices and in between rocks.

GOLD FEVER SHOW

I love the Gold fever show. This show is hosted by Tom Massie who's father founded the Gold Prospectors of America Association many years ago. Tom is a colorful character who goes around the world hunting for gold. His great personality makes the show fun and interesting. This is on the Outdoor Channel. I've recently watched episodes of gold hunting in Australia where they found nice nuggets by metal detecting. He's been to Tasmania where he was diving and panning for gold. He uses a variety of great equipment and is good at explaining how and why each piece works. He uses sluicers, dredgers, panning and metal detecting to find gold in different locations. I've learned so much from watching this show. It has given me GOLD FEVER !

GOLD RUSH ALASKA

This new show on the Discovery Channel has become very popular. In my opinion this is a show to watch to learn what NOT to do when gold hunting. A group of guys from Oregon decided to lease a gold claim in Alaska. They invested a ton of money in equipment that they apparently don't even know how to use. They couldn't figure out how to use the shaker table so they ended up panning all the material (which is time consuming). They also brought some of their kids and families to a very unsafe place in the wilderness full of bears, heavy equipment and other hazards. They didn't even boil their water. In summary they invested a fortune, apparently did little or no research on the equipment to use and are winging it. I'm pretty disappointed with the show so far, but maybe in the end they will find gold. The problem is they have to find LOTS of gold just to break even.

PROSPECTING AMERICA SHOW

This show is also on the Outdoor Channel and is hosted by Perry Massie, the brother of Tom I believe. He also goes to various locations for gold hunting and they have shows about the various equipment to use. This is also very informative, but not as entertaining as the Gold Fever show.

ALASKA SHOW

This is on the Outdoor Channel as well and is sponsored by the Gold Prospectors of America. Every year they offer their members a chance to come to Cripple Creek, Alaska for a week or the whole summer to gold prospect. These guys know what they are doing and have experts on hand to answer the members questions and help them find gold. Your fee to particpate includes shelter, food and the use of their equipment. What a great adventure to have ! They all find gold and everyone gets a share of gold from the high powered equipment that the Association uses out there. So everyone leaves with gold of their own no matter how much time they spend digging. They can also enjoy great fishing, sightseeing and other activities in Alaska. This is a great show and joining the Gold Prospectors of America is a great idea. They sponsor field trips all over the U.S.

All of these shows are great fun to watch and you will learn so much about gold prospecting, all the equipment, locations and more !

Check out the gold prospecting equipment in my bio box below and get started now !

It can be great fun for the whole family.
